This would most likely be where I first encountered feminism in the mainstream...

funny how a single song belted out by a privileged white woman from a completely different reality managed to capture the imagination of a seven/eight year old island girl child. pure cheese? yes. not the heroic beginning of a woc radical feminist. but it was thinking about this song, indira ghandi and margaret thatcher (of all people...ewww) who got me to thinking about equalizing a gender divided public school soccer match in 1970's suburban toronto when i was just a little kid. love it or leave it. happy international wimmin's day. :)
