Albertina Sisulu knew her place...

Winnie did not. Patriarchs one and all, terrified of her power. She would have outshone him. She lived out in the real world, complicated, grey, chaotic. she made complicated, grey, chaotic choices out in the real world. She did what she had to, putting the good of the whole ahead of individuals. Sticky awful choices. She made the kinds of decisions leaders in other parts of the world make on the regular. Obama has so far been responsible for how many deaths? That lobotomized, limp old man put her to one side because he was terrified of her, had not been in relationship with her for so many years it was easy to not stand with her and because he decided to prioritize his power over her. Living in the trenches for the whole time, she would not have stood by and made the kinds of decisions he made that have led to today's South Africa. She would have sounded the alarm! "The fuckers are selling us out! They're selling us out!" Now she's discredited and they make movies about her that say she was not a dedicated leader or good patriarchal wifely Black conscious icon...
